Can dry skin actually cause extra oil due to trying to make up for the lack of hydration?

No. Dry skin is dry until is is adequately hydrated by increasing water intake and/or use of efficient topical products. Can dry skin actually cause extra oil due to trying to make up for the lack of hydration?
Yes, usually this happens when skin is reacting to chemicals and harsh ingredients in facial cleansers. They strip natural oils in skin, which can in a lot of people cause extra oil because oil glands are trying to compensate. In others in can cause really dry skin.

Natural ingredients are much healthier for skin than most all commercial products. For example, try washing your face with powdered milk paste, rinsing with BARELY warm water.

For a moisturizer, I have been using a couple drops of olive oil and spreading a VERY light layer onto my face. It actually is doing a nice job! Not too oily for me either.
